Luke has been a dear friend of mine from way back when we lived in a share house. Luke was studying at art college; I had just started at Qantas. It’s been amazing to witness Luke develop his artistry, talent and style to the extraordinary level he produces today. Luke has designed posters for NAIDOC week, designed prints for scrubs with Yarn, paints murals, produces graphics/videos and exquisite paintings.

Luke was born and bred in Brisbane; his heritage is from North Queensland. Luke’s mother is from the Kuku Yalanji people in the Daintree/Mossman area where their totem is the crocodile. His father comes from Kubin Village on Moa Island in the Torres Strait Islands where his totem is the frilled neck lizard.

Luke’s inspiration for his artwork is family, his Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and tropical surroundings. Luke is very influenced by pop culture, animation and modern design. He feels that his artwork is a gift to help others see the beauty of Aboriginal culture, appreciate Indigenous issues, and bring joy to people through colourful art and designs.

Luke explains, “Understanding and believing the fullness of cultural heritage is guided by the stars above, the land beneath our feet and the spirit all around us. The purity and health of the land and water is vital to sustainability and the healing of our nation. All Australians need to carry in the hearts the significance and value of our ancestor and reflect on First Nations people’s cultural knowledge and understanding of Country.”

The making of Detoxia Logo

Warrior Heart – by Luke Mallie

“The painting is called Warrior Heart. It shows an aboriginal warrior in the heart of Australia, Uluru. It also shows the respect for Ed Sheeran and recognises his Warrior Heart for doing what he believes in and not caring what others think of him. While I was painting this piece, a hawk flew down and sat on top of the painting. I found out that the hawk represents, “being able to see clearly, being a visionary and flying to heights you’ve never reached before”. – Luke Mallie

When I asked Luke to design the logo for Detoxia, he was on is way back to Country to the Daintree Area. The rainforest trees gave inspiration for the large tropical leaves that form the shape of angel wings on the Detoxia Logo. I was delighted when Luke sent me the first draft of the Logo as I only gave him the name of the business and the colour green to start. I don’t know how Luke knew but a lot of my clients tell me that I’m an Angel after their colonic treatment.

At Detoxia, we aim to focus on the purity and health of the individual to begin to heal. What’s pure inside flows to the outside and all around. My vision is to spread my knowledge of good health and heal people.
